Charlie Bambridge was an international footballer who represented England 18 times scoring 11 goals. His first cap was against Scotland on 5th April 1879 at 20 years old, and his last was vs Scotland on 19th March 1887 aged 28. Bambridge, born on 30th July 1858, in Windsor, has a FA Legacy Number of 69 and played as a Inside Left, Outside Right, Half Back and Outside Left for his country.

  • One of five footballing brothers, three of whom won England caps. Their father was William Samuel Bambridge who was a schoolmaster at Eton, missionary to New Zealand and most famously Royal Photographer to Queen Victoria. One of the brothers, George, was personal secretary to the Duke of Edinburgh. Known as 'Charlie Bam' he was the most capped of his siblings with eighteen. He played for Swifts, Upton Park, Clapham Rovers and Corinthian - where he was honorary secretary from 1923-32. He was appointed to the FA Committee 1883-86. He was a Lloyd's underwriter professionally.
