- Bury attended Eton College and went up to Trinity College, Cambridge where he earned blues for cricket (1878), football (1877 & 1878) and athletics (1878, 1879 & 1880). He played nine first-class cricket matches for Cambridge University and Hampshire. Football-wise, he regularly turned out for Cambridge University and Old Etonians, the latter he helped to an FA Cup final win over Clapham Rovers in 1879. He was appointed to the FA committee in 1878 and also represented Swifts. He had an abortive attempt of trying to become an orange farmer in Florida in the 1880s but did manage to find himself a spouse in New York in 1886 before returning to England and settling in Berkshire.
