- Jack started his career with Blackburn Olympic as a teenager before playing with Blackburn Rovers where he won two FA Cup winners’ medals in 1890 and 1891. He moved to Everton for £400 in August 1893 but had to retire from the game due to injury in the 1894-95 season. He played just 139 games for both Rovers and Everton but managed to notch up an incredible 139 goals and surely would have made more than the miserly three caps - and naturally three goals - for England had it not been for injury and the talents of John Goodall and GO Smith who kept him out the team. A professional violinist who regularly played with the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester. He also appeared in one English League match against the Scottish League in 1893.
