- Goodhart schooled at Eton College before going up to Cambridge. He played for both Cambridge Univesity and Old Etonians. He won the FA Cup with Old Etonians in 1879 and 1882 and was a runner-up in 1881 and 1883. In all three of his 1883 caps he was played with his Old Etonian club mate Percy de Paravinci. He returned to Cambridge in 1884, three years after graduating, as a lecturer before taking a position at Edinburgh University of Professor of Humanity. He died of pneumonia in 1895 and is buried in Sussex.
